Vice-chancellor safeguards the publishing of the Diversity Index

Refugees

The University of Gävle, by publishing the annual Diversity Index, wants to contribute to the debate on diversity in the Swedish society.

The vice-chancellor has now allocated funds that safeguard a continued publishing of the Diversity Index.

“I consider that presenting attitudes towards diversity and how they change over time is a matter of considerable importance,” says vice-chancellor Maj-Britt Johansson.

“Awareness of the attitudes of the Swedish is important because it can have a great influence on the social climate of the future,” says Professor of sociology Fereshteh Ahmadi.

The Diversity Index has existed since 2005 and annually measures the attitudes of Swedes to ethnical diversity. Earlier Uppsala University took responsibility for the survey but since 2013 the Department for social work and psychology at the University of Gävle has taken over, under the leadership of Professor of sociology Fereshteh Ahmadi.
