About Learning Center

What is Learning Center?

Learning Center is a central support function for distance education and flexible learning at the University of Gävle. We strive to develop, strengthen and increase distance education at the university and in its surrounding region. By supporting teachers and students in the use of distance technology, we hope to contribute to greater flexibility in the courses.

Background

In the region, there is extensive experience of distance education. Learning Center was to begin with a joint venture to make use of this experience in order to develop.
During the project period 1/1 2001 to 28/2 2005, a stable structure was established, which coordinated resources and increased the possibilities of developing more flexible forms of distance teaching.

Operations

Together with teachers we,

test new methods for more flexible teaching
create technologies for web teaching
develop courses and supervise in flexible learning methods
arrange seminars around the theme of distance teaching/flexible learning
cooperate with study centres

Learning Center focuses on three areas,

Cooperation around distance education and flexible learning
Development of methodology and technology in flexible learning
Increased use of new, more flexible forms of distance teaching

A meeting place

Those involved in distance education, mainly teachers and supervisors, will find a natural meeting place at Learning Center, a place where problems in distance teaching - technology, methodology, etc. - can be discussed, experiences exchanged and new solutions tried.
