Blackboard is a web based learning management system, for courses at the University of Gävle. The system is used for both campus courses and distance learning. To use Blackboard, all you need is a computer that is connected to the Internet and has a web browser installed. All courses in Blackboard are searchable.
You can, for example, use Blackboard to:
...distribute course material
...take digital examinations
...communicate through discussion boards and chats
One of the great advantages of Blackboard, is that the basic structure is uniform for all courses. This makes it easy for students to navigate the system. (The teacher can change the number of buttons/menu items and the names of these if they wish to, so there are courses that look different.)
NOTE: The template we use is in Swedish, so all courses are created with a Swedish course menu. The teacher must actively change this, if for example should be in English. The basic structure of a course looks like this:
Courses will automatically be deleted from the system in 40 months after the point when the course was created. Teachers have a responsibility to save and file important parts of the course.
Learning Center answers support questions and helps teachers with course development issues in Blackboard. You can enter your case directly into our support system. Otherwise, you can also contact us by e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or phone +46 26 64 87 00.
In order to be able to help you easier and faster, you should always give us:
• A clear description of your problem
• Your full name
• Telephone number
• Current course (preferably Course ID)
Here is a introduction manual for students to Blackboard, suited to include when sending the course welcome letter.
The file is available in both PDF and Word format, which makes it possible to adapt it to a particular course if you want to (for example, enter your access code in the manual).
