The International Office is responsible for the exchange students at the University of Gävle. Coming as an exchange student means several things will be arranged for you. An introduction will be held at the very beginning of your stay, to help you get started with your studies and social life in Gävle.

Exchange students are selected at each of University of Gävle´s partner universities.

You can choose to apply for Student accommodation at AB Gavlegårdarna www.gavlegardarna.se/studentexternal link

Please register now at AB Gavlegårdarna. For every day you have been registered you will receive one point.  Queuing time starts to count the day you sign up.

Notice! Please wait to apply for accommodation until the end of June- first week in July, 2012.

Erasmus Intensive Language Course - EILC

An average monthly budget is set out below to give you
some idea of the cost of living in Sweden
Food: SEK 2.000 • Accommodation: SEK 3.200 • Local travel: SEK 500
Telephone/internet: SEK 300 • Insurance, medical care and hygiene:
SEK 250 • Student union fee: SEK 60-70. Clothing, hobby/leisure,
other: SEK 750 • Total: SEK 7.070 or about EUR 750.

Health insurance


Insurance conditions for Exchange Students
Students admitted within an exchange agreement at HiG are covered by a collective health insurance financed by the institute. The terms for the insurance are available on the website of Kammarkollegiet (The Swedish Legal, Financial and Administrative Services Agency). Kammarkollegietexternal link
Health insurance for Nordic, EU/EEA citizens and Switzerland. If you are a citizen of any of the Nordic, EU/EEA countries or Switzerland, you have access to essential health care if you register beforehand at a social insurance office in your home country and obtain a European Health Insurance card.
Health insurance for non-EU/EEA citizens: stays of one year or more. As a visiting student, if you have a residence permit valid for one year or more, you are entitled to the same health benefits as Swedes. However, you are obligated to national registration at our local tax office in Gävle as soon as you arrive. Here you will be given a Swedish civic registration number. Health insurance for non-EU/EEA citizens: stays of less than one year. If you have a residence permit valid for a period of less than a year, you are not able to register at a the local Tax office, and you do not have automatic access to health care. Usually students accepted to programs less than one year are required to have a valid health insurance from their home country in order to be granted a residence permit in Sweden.
