This course will give you a thorough introduction to the issue of ergogenic doping agents and their use in sports and beyond. It covers a broad array of topics and focuses on understanding the various problems and the complexity of issues faced in the fight against doping.

  • The history of doping and anti-doping
  • The organizations involved in the fight against doping
  • Doping from a medical/physiological perspective
  • Doping from a sociological perspective
  • Doping from an ethical/moral perspective
  • Doping from a policy and legal perspective
  • Doping beyond sports, in the society
  • The practice of anti-doping control
  • Current research and development
  • The future of anti-doping efforts

Who can follow the course?


The course is a distance course and is delivered completely through the Internet. The course tempo is 25% compared to fulltime studies. Therefore you can participate irrespectively of where you live in the world and you can combine a full time job with your studies. The number of participants in each course is limited to 50.

Study fees?


Access to higher education in Sweden is free of charge. However it should be noted that there are on-going discussions at a national level concerning the introduction of study fees for students from non EU-member states. Students that will enroll in the next spring term 2009 course will definitely not be affected. Any change in this respect will be communicated here.

More Information


The course will be given once each semester.

The course is built on a generous number of lectures by world-wide authorities in their field and two course books along with articles and other resource material. Each lecture is about 30-45 minutes long.
