About the University of Gävle

There are approximately 12,000 registered students at the University of Gävle. Half of these students come from the surrounding region; the other half come from other parts of Sweden. Slightly over 50% of the students are female, and the number of students with ethnic backgrounds other than Swedish is increasing each year.

The total number of employees is approx. 800, of whom over 30 are full professors and 150 are senior lecturers. A high percentage of the academic staff has an international background, a fact that contributes to the university´s on-going process of internationalisation.

There are five academic profile areas: 1) Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Computer Science 2) Technology 3) Humanities and Social Sciences 4) Teacher Training 5) Health Care

The cross-disciplinary study of social structures serves as a central theme within these profile areas, and contributes to a lively research environment. Moreover, extensive collaboration with colleges and universities, both nationally and internationally, extends research opportunities beyond the university´s own campus area.
