About the Course
The course gives a wide perspective on the energy topic in terms of large-scale production, utilization and global environmental impact, as well as tools to assess and direct energy use and technology design. Main topics of the course are:
Vocabulary and definitions in energy systems
Assessment and control tools for energy systems:
Systems tools
Economic tools
Political tools
Fossil fuel energy systems and resources
Bio energy
Nuclear energy
Transportation energy
Industrial energy systems
District heating and cooling
Carbon sequestration
Energy storage
The course also includes an essay writing task on an individually chosen energy system subject, where the writing should be in popular scientific style and include references to scientific and other adequate literature. It can be noted that renewable energy is dealt with only marginally in this course; that subject is treated more in other, supplementary courses in the study program on Energy systems.

Prerequisites
Completion of Bachelor's degree in technology or natural sciences of at least 180 credits, or equivalent foreign degree with at least 12 credits of which in thermodynamics and fluid mechanics, or equivalent knowledge English language proficiency equivalent to (the Swedish upper secondary school) English course 6/BSelection
