About folk dancing in Sweden

Folk dances are traditional dances that have a form and performance based on how people from a particular geographical location or social background perform them. Folk dances are danced almost exclusively to folk or fiddle music and dancers often wear traditional clothing. Swedish folk dance can be danced as couple dances, group dances or ritual dances. The dances in Swedish folk dance have great similarities with folk dances in the other Nordic countries, but some dance patterns taken from the court and noble dances of continental Europe and Britain from around the 16th to 19th centuries can also be seen.
