Applications over the country are declining compared with last year. However, the University of Gävle belongs to the institutions of higher education where applications are on the increase and they are increasing at the highest rate.
Figures from the Swedish Council for Higher Education show that 11 916 people have applied for programmes at the University of Gävle as their first choice, and that is an increase of twelve percent compared with last year.
“We have 1307 more first choice applications than last year which was also a record,” says Micael Melander, education coordinator at the University of Gävle.
Among universities and institutes of higher education the University of Gävle is at the top of the list, and regarding first choice applications, has the highest rate of increase.
The total number of first choice applications to the universities and institutes of higher education in the country has decreased by two percent compared with 2015 and at 25 of the 37 institutes of higher education they have decreased.
Once again the University of Gävle is going against the tide and shows the highest rate of increase, 1 307 more first choice applications than last year, of all the institutes of higher education.
“Once again very encouraging that our programmes are so sought after and yet again an acknowledgement of our strength at the University of Gävle. We have for several years been Sweden’s next most popular institute of higher education and this is yet another step forward,” says Vice Chancellor Maj-Britt Johansson.
“That the University of Gävle stands strong in a region where the need for well educated people is so great, is of vital importance for our future development.”
The programmes that most people apply for at Gävle are to study to be economists, teachers and estate agents.
