Preschool teacher at University of Gävle most popular at Studentum.se

The campaign “Become a Teacher” at Studentum.se has received a lot of attention, the greatest interest being for the preschool teacher course at the University of Gävle.
Teacher shortage
According to the government Sweden is anticipating a huge shortage of teachers and before the year 2019 about 60,000 more teachers will be needed than those that have qualified during the last five years.
Therefore, in March Studentum.se, one of Sweden’s most frequently used search engines for further educational studies, launched the campaign “Become a teacher” to try and increase the interest of students in becoming teachers.
The preschool teacher programme at the University of Gävle became the most popular teacher training course in the spring of 2016 on Studentum.se.
Highest rate of increase
Regarding first choice applications to programmes starting in the autumn of 2015 the University of Gävle was also the institute of higher education that had the highest rate of increase.
As the total number of first choice applicants to the universities and institutes of higher education in the country decreased, the University of Gävle once again went against the grain and showed the highest rate of increase of all the institutes of higher education.
“The University of Gävle has a strong position and it imbues students in the country with confidence. It is especially gratifying that there is so much interest for the teacher training course, an area that needs to be expanded substantially during the coming years,” says Vice Chancellor Maj-Britt Johansson.
