“In here, you are supposed to be able to do all sorts of things. We will have project spaces and arrange workshops and courses. Come her and hang out with us, play or test your ideas”, says Josephine Rydberg, cross-media consultant at Region Gävleborg.

The University’s new Virtual Reality (VR) Lab opens on 26 January and has been developed together with Region Gävleborg, the county council in Gävleborg. The Lab wants to provide new experiences and promote innovative ways of telling stories.

“We would like to put a new tool in the hands of storytellers, artists and filmmakers to see what they will come up with,” Josephine Rydberg says.

New opportunities for education

“It is very important that you come here and try it for yourself. Talking about VR without testing it is just like talking about water without swimming, or without even having been there,” says Claes Westelius, project manager at the University of Gävle.

“VR gives us great opportunities, not least within education. A teacher or student who can’t be there physically, can now participate in a way which has not been possible earlier.”
