2020-02-19

“As long as the articles are focused on sustainable organizations, we will take them on,” Rodrigo Lozano, chief editor for the journal Frontiers.

Frontiers is an en open-access journal which covers a niche no one else is covering: sustainable organizations in businesses and universities, in civil society and in the public sector.

“Some journals publish on businesses, some on education, but Frontiers plan to publish on all sustainable organizations, which is unique,” Rodrigo Lozano says.

Sustainability from an organizational perspective

He explains that Frontiers concerns everyone who is focusing on some type of organization as long as sustainability is explored from an organizational perspective and the relationships between these organizations are part of the project.

“In contrast to other journals or disciplines, we look at the city as a product of interrelated organizations. Not only inhabitants and the city, but inhabitants, organizations and the city.

Rodrigo Lozano gives examples of possible topics:

  • Sustainable finance and investing, corporate sustainability or Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
  • Social health, e.g. a hospital as an organization
  • Environmental issues e.g. CO2, asbestos in buildings or indoor climate—as long as the issues are explored from organizational perspectives.
  • The organization of a city
  • Individuals within an organization, applied psychology.
  • Different perspectives on the University as an organization. Lecturers, students, administration or our relationship to Akademiska Hus.
  • The University’s communication with the region, businesses or the city.

“It is very easy to publish in Frontiers compared to other journals,” Rodrigo Lozano explains. “It is just one webpage and it is comparable to publishing on Facebook.”

“Frontiers is a global journal and reviewers come from Chile, Brazil, Mexico, USA, South Africa, Malaysia, Japan and many other countries. This special topic, sustainable organizations, creates a niche that no one else is covering,” Rodrigo Lozano says.
