2022-04-11

“For several years in a row, Roger Skoog’s students have nominated him for the award Teacher of the Year… As his pedagogical approach is characterised by warmth and presence, he makes hard subjects fun and opens door his students would never have dared to open.” This is a quote from the motivation to elect Roger Skoog, lecturer in chemistry, Teacher of the Year.

On the basis of nominations from the University’s students, a jury from Gefle Student Union has elected Roger Skoog Teacher of the Year. He will receive the award at the University’s Academic Ceremony.

“I love my job and the subject chemistry that I teach, and I am incredibly grateful that the student union and the students have given me this award. To me, it is important that all students understand. I can put a lot of effort into that, and my reward is the students’ joy and that I am involved in their development,” Roger Skoog says.

Student voices:

“One of the best teachers I have ever had! If Roger would have been our teacher in math and physics, I guarantee that more students would have passed the exams on their first attempt!”

“Roger is an amazing teacher. It is rare to come across such a supportive teacher with such pedagogical skills, thanks for this course!”

“The teacher in chemistry was absolutely amazing, that he could take chemistry down to our level, wow!”

“Roger is the best teacher I have ever had. When he was teaching, I never felt stupid because no questions or speculations were wrong.”

From the jury’s motivation:

“For several years in a row, Roger Skoog’s students have nominated him for the award Teacher of the Year.

He has a seemingly tireless passion for spreading knowledge in his field. When teaching students, Roger’s flame burns ceaselessly; his goal is not only that his students pass the courses but also that they find the subject very gratifying. The latter aspect is clearly reflected in the students’ nominations.

As his pedagogical approach is characterised by warmth and presence, he makes hard subjects fun and opens door his students would never have dared to open.”
