"I want to continue to inspire students, who are so important for our future"

2023-02-01

A researcher who left Ukraine because of the war, soap bubble experiments to investigate the spread of infection and an article about a student who we have been following from the start of education to graduation. Now you can read the new issue of the University's magazine LEVE! digitally. You can also find it in newsstands around campus.

In this year's first issue of LEVE! you get to meet Nataliia Melnyk, who got a job at the University of Gävle after leaving her war torn homeland Ukraine.

– We had a good communication and I felt safe going to Gävle. I was helped with all the paperwork, finding an apartment to live in and a school for my son to attend. I'm so grateful and I have very supportive colleagues.

Soap bubble experiments

At the University of Gävle, researchers are investigating how the air moves in a room when people are sitting there. This is done by releasing soap bubbles in a glass room. The aim is to find ventilation methods that can reduce the spread of infection.

– The soap bubbles follow the movement of the air in the room and with their help we can see how the air moves. We will photograph the soap bubbles moving with the air and then digitally analyze the tracks that form on the images, says Elisabet Linden, research engineer.

"I feel that I have chosen a future profession"

In the magazine, we also summarize the studies of nursing student Marie Kihlström, whom we have been able to follow from the start of her education to graduation.

– I feel that I have chosen a future profession, here I can finally land and feel that I can work until I retire. There are many specializations to choose from and regardless of your interest and where you want to work as a nurse, there is something for everyone, she says.
