Course organisation and communication

Welcome to the course Applied Environmental Microbiology, which is an advanced level course. The course gives a general theoretical and practical background of molecular biological techniques for identification and classification of microorganisms. Attendance is mandatory in laboratory sessions and seminars. For the laboratory sessions, you are expected to work independently in and between the laboratory sessions on a research question in a given topic of microbiology (by online movies, tutorials and other digital resources). During laboratory sessions, you are expected to take notes in a bound notebook, which you need to buy prior to the start of the course. For the seminar, you can choose any topic in microbiology to cover in depth; either connected to the lab work (so you already have the literature for the lab report) or of any topic of own choice. The seminar part consists of a written report and an oral presentation. In addition, there will be lectures on the theory. The course will end with a written examination. It is not clear at the moment if this will be a digital examination or if it can be held on the university premises. The latter is preferred if the situation in the spring will allow for it.

The learning platform is Canvas (step three in five steps to get started)

The course is given by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Science

Written exams

Registration for exams, including re-takes, is mandatory. You can register for exams via Ladok. You need to register at least ten days before the exam date. If you didn't register in time, you can not take your exam. No exceptions are made from this rule, we do not accept registrations when the deadline is passed.
