Programme introduction and registration

Registration and an introductory to your programme will be held on Campus 2 September, time: 10:00–13:00 (Swedish time). The registration and introduction will be held at Campus and we recommend you to attend since this is a campus based programme, but if this is not possible you can join via Zoom and this link: https://hig-se.zoom.us/j/61193131294

If you cannot attend the programme introduction at all, you need to contact the programme administration in advance at studentsupport@hig.se
If you are absent from the programme introduction without informing us, you will lose your place on the programme.

Please note that the semester starts 2 September, and it is highly important to participate in the first course and from the beginning of the programme.

The session will be hosted on Campus and Zoom by Programme Director, Dr. Catharina Löf.

The Bachelor´s programme in social work with a specialization in international social work at the University of Gävle provides you with a multidimensional and multicultural understanding of individuals, groups, and society, and action skills for sustainable development within diverse countries and across the globe.

The programme is open to applicants from all over the world and the programme language is English. The programme consist of three years of full-time studies. Each year is divided into two semesters. Each semester you follow courses that together amount to 30 credits.

Your first year on the programme will start 2 September 2024 and ends June 2025. During the first semester you will first study Social Work and Social Problems, 15 credits, followed by Social Policy in a National and International Perspective I, 7.5 credits, and then Basic Perspectives on Scientific Theory and Research Methods in Social Work, 7.5 credits.

  • The timetable for each course will be available one month before in Kronox and on Canvas, in our web-based schedule and learning management systems.
In preparation for your first courses

In preparation for your first courses

Your first course on the programme is Social Work and Social Problems 15 credits. This course lasts for ten weeks and it starts 2 September with course introduction. Prepare with start reading the course literature. You will receive more information about the first course in the course information below.

There you will find information about course registration, links to the course syllabus and reading list, timetable and more. Welcome information for courses is published at the latest four weeks before the course start date.

Service and Support

Accommodation

You need to apply for accommodation yourself. Please remember to do it in good time before your arrival. The University of Gävle does not provide any student accommodation.

Free Microsoft Office

As a student at the University of Gävle you have the opportunity to install
Microsoft Office on up to five computers. The Office package includes Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook and Onenote.

  • Library

The library is located in the middle of campus and is open to everybody. You can reach all digital resources such as e-books and e-journals after logging in with your user account.

  • Residence permit
    • If you are a non-EU citizen you need to apply for a residence permit. Start the process of applying for a residence permit as soon as possible. This can be a slow process and take several months. It is therefore good to get started as soon as possible!

Student Centre

At the Student Centre you will meet knowledgeable staff that can assist you in just about anything regarding your studies at the University of Gävle. The Student Centre is located in building 22. You will also find a café in this area and TV displays showing current information and the daily timetabling. If you have any study-related questions, you can contact the Student Centre at studentsupport@hig.se

Student Support

  • Sometimes you need help to manage your studies and student life. At the University of Gävle we have several support functions to help you deal with various study-related situations, such as, for example, study guidance counselling, student health and welfare, and support for disabled students.

Web meetings with Zoom

  • Zoom are a services for web meetings at the University of Gävle. You usually need a webcam and headset with a microphone.

Wireless network (wifi)

Eduroam (EDUcation ROAMing) gives you access to the Internet when you are staying on the University campus. It also provides internet access at other universities and colleges that are connected to eduroam. Eduroam also works at many airports, railway stations and hotels.
