The University of Gävle follows recommendations by the Public Health Agency of Sweden and by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, MFA, regarding the novel coronavirus.

As a rule, the management of the University will not issue special recommendations for several reasons. First, the situation changes every day and from country to country and, moreover, the expertise in the field can be found in other public authorities.
On 5 February, the management of the University issued a recommendation that all members of staff and all students who have visited affected areas in China should work or study from home for two weeks after returning home.
Now, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs also strongly advises against all travel to Iran. For this reason, the University at present recommends that all members of staff and all students who have visited Iran should work or study from home for two weeks after returning to Sweden.
Recent statistics from World Health Organization, WHO, show that the virus is still spreading in China, but not as rapidly. Moreover, the virus is spreading in Iran, northern parts of Italy and in South Korea.
Our general recommendation is to discuss and counsel with your line manager (for members of staff) and your lecturer (if you are a student) in each case.
The management of the University now urges all members of staff and students to follow the recommendations issued by public authorities. At present, on 4 March, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs strongly advises against all travel to Iran and to affected areas in China. Concerning Italy, there are travelling restrictions regarding certain areas issued by Italian public authorities. However, Swedish authorities do not in general advice against travelling to Italy or to South Korea at present.
As a result of the University’s recommendations, no request for travels on behalf of the University to China or to Iran will be granted until further notice. Moreover, all members of staff who are in affected areas right now are urged to register at the Swedish list (Svensklistan - Sweden abroad) at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs to receive updated information from the embassy.

The Public Health Agency of Sweden now assesses the risk of individuals testing positive for covid-19, as the virus is called, to be "very high" and the risk of the virus spreading in Sweden to be "moderate." The five-point scale has five risk levels: very low, low, moderate, high and very high.
In Sweden, more than 50 people have tested positive. So far, all individuals in Sweden who have covid-19 contracted the virus abroad or has been in close contact with someone who have contracted the virus abroad.
