On Monday March 30th, staff and students will be able to work with applications and documents located at HiG no matter where they are located geographically and what type of devices they are are using (PC, Mac, tablet).
Remote Desktop Services (RDS) is a way to work on a computer (server) on the university's network no matter where you yourself are located geographically and what type of device you are using (PC, Mac, tablet). What would have been shown on the server screen instead appears on your own monitor while mouse movements and keyboard keystrokes on your local computer are sent to the server.
You reach the system via the web portal http://remote.hig.se from Monday, March 30.
In the web portal you will find instructions on how to login as well as a manual. Instruction videos will soon be available in the IT-handbook
Many applications are installed from the start, but more will be added gradually.
The new RDS replaces the current Citrix system, currently in use by ATM, and the RDS 2008 system in use by AHA. Both will live on in parallel with the new RDS as long as it is needed.
