Entry Requirements

To be able to study at a higher education institution or university you are required to have certain prior knowledge. These qualifications form the basis that you need in order to be able to complete your studies.

First Cycle

To be able to start first-cycle studies you are required to have basic and sometimes also specific qualifications. You obtain the general qualifications through your final school grades from the upper secondary school or equivalent. Specific entry requirements may imply that you need to have passed certain subjects in upper secondary school.

Second Cycle

To start second-cycle studies you are required to have a Higher Education Diploma from first cycle of at least 180 credits. For single subject courses, no Higher Education Diploma is required, but you need to have completed your first-cycle studies.

Doctoral Education

A prospective doctoral student meets the general entry requirement for doctoral education if he or she:

  1. has been awarded a degree at advanced (equivalent to second-cycle in Sweden) level, or,
  2. has satisfied the requirements for courses comprising at least 240 credits (ECTS) of which at least 60 credits (ECTS) were awarded at advanced level, or
  3. has acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad.
