Overview of the courses that make up the programme:

Year 1

Semester 2
Satellite Sensors and their Applications in Geospatial Information Science 5 hp
Field Geography, Geomatics, Surveying Technology, Geospatial Information Science

The aim of the course is to provide knowledge of advanced methods and techniques of global satellite sensors and their applications in different fields of geospatial infromations science such as: geodesy, geophysics, geodynamics, tectonics, meteorology, hydrology and oceanography.

Year 2

Semester 1
Risk Modelling, Mapping and Geovisualisation 5 hp
Field Geography, Geomatics, Geospatial Information Science

After completion of the course the student shall be able to
1. determine data requirements needed to conduct hazard, vulnerability and risk assessment
2. apply advanced methods, in combination with GIS and numerical modelling software, to understand and estimate risks at a given scenario
3. analyse and evaluate model results, as well as their accuracy
4. give examples on usage of risk information in planning
5. communicate risks and uncertainties, in the forms of maps and other geovisualisation techniques.

Semester 1
Geodesign and Scenario Planning 5 hp
Field Geography, Spatial Planning, Geospatial Information Science

The Scenario Planning and GeoDesign course is a planning methods course. Scenario planning and geodesign are data rich, analytical urban planning methods for assessing how well existing or proposed plans will meet local and regional goals. Scenario planning and geodesign help decision makers compare planning options and to understand how communities can benefit from refinements to existing plans.

GIS Organisation and Project Management 5 hp

After completion of the course the student shall be able to
1. identify and explain the different types of GIS organisational structures, tasks and functionalities
2. elucidate the important phases of project development and implementation
3. assess GIS requirements
4. design and plan projects
5. develop and apply strategies that can be implemented within the project
6. create and present an implementation plan for GIS project
7. discuss various issues associated with the use and dissemination of geospatial data.

Individual Project Course in Geospatial Information Science 5 hp
Field Geospatial Information Science

After completion of the course the student shall be able to
1. analyze problems in selected areas of the field of geospatial information science
2. apply the acquired knowledge in a real or hypothetical (research oriented) example
3. assess the completed internship/project with respect to the student's own development goals and the subject areas' technical, theoretical, and professional goals
4. evaluate and assess different practices and professional roles in the workplace with reference to the student's education and underlying theories.

Advanced Geospatial Data Visualization 5 hp

After completion of the course the student shall be able to
1. describe and discuss specialized techniques for visualization of geospatial data
2. explain human's perceptual capacity in context of data visualization
3. conceptually design and implement a geovisualization in a given area
4. evaluate and assess visualizations from in regard to useability.
