Study Programme in Land Management and Engineering

Overview of the courses that make up the programme:

Year 1

Year 2

Semester 2
Digital Photogrammetry 7.5 cr
Field Geomatics, Surveying Technology

The purpose of the course is to give sound knowledge in Digital Photogrammetry. This includes understanding of the function of aerial mapping systems and methods of photogrammetric data processing, for example, block adjustment, automated generation of Digital Elevation Models and digital orthophotos. The course participants acquire good practical skills in the application of Digital Photogrammetry and deeper understanding of image processing routines, which are important for Digital Photogrammetry.

Semester 2
Geodetic Instruments 7.5 cr
Field Geomatics

The purpose of the course is to give the student sound knowledge of modern geodetic instruments, particularly the use of global navigation satellite systems (GNSS). The course participants acquire good understanding of the function of modern geodetic equipment, of sources of uncertainty in the measurements, and of testing procedures, as well as practical skills in GNSS surveying.

Year 3

Semester 1
GIS raster/vector 7.5 cr
Field Spatial Planning, Geospatial Information Science, Geomatics, Geography, Surveying Technology

The course aims at deepening the understanding of how GIS works, both in theory and in practice. Topics covered include for example methods for data gathering in raster and vector environments, integration and conversions of different spatial data, editing and updating methods, raster and vector analyses, digital elevation modeling as well as graphical presentation of analysis results. Note that the course cannot be credited for if taken parallel with the course GIT in Land Management.

Semester 1
Terrestrial and Airborne Laser Scanning 7.5 cr
Field Geomatics, Surveying Technology

The purpose of the course is to give sound knowledge of modern terrestrial (TLS) and airborne (ALS) laser scanning technologies, as well as to give practical skills in planning and execution of and in data processing from TLS surveys. The course participants acquire good understanding of the function of TLS and ALS systems, sources of uncertainty in the measurements, and practical skills in using different methods of data processing. A realistic TLS project is run throughout the whole course.
