Field Media and Communications Science

The course focuses on theories and methods within the field of media studies. It consists of theories and methods both for social sciences and the humanities.

Semester 2
Strategic Communication 15 cr
Field Media and Communications Science

The first part of the course focuses on theories and methods examining features of strategic communication. It explores communicative strategies in government organizations, companies, NGOs and other types of organizational activities. Further, it investigates aspects of issues characterizing the conditions of a digitalized public sphere.

The second part of the course engages in applications of the theoretical and methodological discourse for cases of communicative strategies.

Semester 2
Organizational Communication 7.5 cr
Field Media and Communications Science

In the course, internal communication in different organizational contexts is studied, and the concept of communication is examined from philosophic, sociological and psychological perspectives. Modern organizational principles are compared with post-modern organizational forms and strategies. Central themes are the individual in the organisation and the role of communication in strategic changes.

Semester 1
Media and Typography 7.5 cr
Field Media and Communications Science

The course analyses the basic rules and regulatory systems of typography, through studying historical developments in classical, modern and post-modern typography. Thereafter, the emphasis is placed on studying the role of typography in media: what impact does typography have in film, on the web etc Exercises in creating meaning in typography, choice of style and structuring are included in the course.
