Social Work and Sustainable Development 7.5 cr

Social work has a long history of focusing on human interactions with environment for interventions. More than ever before, social workers are being called to play a more significant role for achieving the United Nations’ goals for sustainable development. In particular, sustainable development is much more than ecological and economic concern; and therefore social workers are being urged to analyse the broader social and cultural aspects of common people’s lives and intervene for social transformation towards ecological justice. Within this particular context, this course is designed with theoretical and practical examples for social workers to get equip for sustainable development interventions at micro, mezzo and macro levels.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
1. explain concepts related to eco-social work
2. describe theories, methods and practices related to social work and sustainable development
3. discuss issues related to ecological social work with different audiences
4. demonstrate the ability to apply eco-social approach in social work with children, the elderly, disabled people and people vulnerable to violence and abuse
