Distance Learning Students

Here you can read more about borrowing books as a distance learning student and living more than 50 km from Gävle, in Sweden.

To read the Library’s e-books or electronically published articles, you only need to log in with your user account. You don’t need to have a library card for electronical sources.

This is for you who is a distance learning student and is living more than 50 km from Gävle, in Sweden.

  1. Fill in this form and click on submit.
  2. Download the loan contract, fill in and signthe loan contract. Pdf, 3 MB. Then send it to us via e-mail biblioteket @hig.se or regular mail.
  3. You can also digitally sign the loan contract. E-mail the completed and signed loan contract to the library, biblioteket@hig.se, within 7 days to complete your registration.
  4. You will receive our welcome letter and your library card, when we have completed your application. Use the library card number and the PIN code to log in to your library account.

Information for you as a new library user

Books can be sent to your home address

Printed books in our possession can be sent to you through the post if you are a distant learning student who lives more than5o km from Gävle here in Sweden. We only send books within Sweden, and please note that return postage will be at your own expense.

Please observe that reading list material needs to have reached us no later than the due date to avoid overdue fees.

Ordering books

Our printed books and all e-books on a reading list can be found in our library catalogue. If the book is available on the shelf, you can order it via e-mail by using our e-mail: biblioteket@hig.se

If the book is checked out, you can reserve it yourself in the library catalogue. When it is available, we will notify you via e-mail and you can cancel a request within 24 hours if it is no longer needed. If you don’t cancel your request, we will send the book to you the next day.

Loan period

The loan period is two weeks for reading list items and four weeks for other items.

Items must have reached the library no later than the due date to avoid overdue fees. Books should be sent in time so that they have reached us no later than the due date, if you want to avoid overdue fees.

Loan renewal

If your loans are not reserved by someone else, you can renew your loans via our catalogue, using your library account and PIN-code. You can renew your books a maximum of four times. Should you require more time you must contact the library.

Reference only
  • Some material is available for reference only and cannot be borrowed. This applies to reference literature, printed journals and daily publications. As a distance student you can, for a fee, order copies of printed journal articles. The fee is 40 kr per article.
Interlibrary loans

Literature unavailable at the university library can be borrowed from other libraries inside or outside of Sweden. Articles are sent home directly but books must be collected from the university library.
