Liya Kalinnikova Magnusson is a senior lecturer of Special Education.
CURRENT RESEARCH
Fundamental challenges in SNE towards inclusion and how this developmental process is contextualised by political choices in educational reforms internationally; comparative studies in education; process of decentralization and deinstitutionalization in Eastern neighbouring countries; teacher education curricular studies; dynamics of change of SNE targets.

The research experience is in the area of special education development towards inclusion with a focus on:
- Curricular studies
- Deinstitutionalization/decentralization of residential institutions for children with severe disabilities, development of inclusive infrastructure locally
- Legacies of state ideologies in countries with authoritative regimes and how these ideologies affected formation of special education and challenged the transition to inclusive education in these countries
