Molecular filtration

Molecular filtration is a rather young area for academic research. As a result of earlier R&D financed by Vinnova, industry, and banks at the Materials Technology group a new generation of filter media based on aerogel has been developed. Products and processes are patented and a company (www.aerogel.se) has been started. The filter material is recyclable and will allow selective filtration. The successful R&D evoked increased interest from market actors and initiated support to basic research on filtration processes and filter materials. Academic research to enhance the knowledge of molecular filtration started during spring 2007 financed by the university, industry and originally by a bank fund.
