Industrial Engineering and Management is a multidisciplinary subject based on technological sciences but it also involves social sciences.
The interaction between humans, organisation and technology is central. We specialise in practically relevant knowledge regarding production management and innovation in industrial firms and organisations.
Our specialisation concerns the following issues and areas
We focus on technological, economic and organisational strategies and methods for the shaping and management of industrial activities from a sustainability perspective (social, ecological and economic). The interaction between humans, organisations and technology is at the core of our activities.
Our starting point it that activities and systems are shaped in a process in which the well-being and learning of humans are crucial factors and that these in turn are realised through economic resource-efficiency. The subject focuses on practically relevant knowledge regarding production management and innovation in industrial firms and organisations. Our specialisation concerns creating knowledge and addressing queries regarding innovation management, industrial organisation and project management, logistics, supply chain management, industrial marketing, quality management and management for sustainability, environmental technologies and work science.
Primarily, analyses highlight conditions within, as well as relationships between, industrial firms and organisations, and they can be applied to problems and challenges within different lines of businesses and sectors, involving, for example, the development of technical systems and the built environment (for instance logistics and production systems) or a focus on how industrial activities can be shaped, managed and developed in interaction with technical environments.
In our research, there is an emphasis on empirical studies, especially on case studies and survey studies, and it comprises qualitative as well as quantitative methods for analysing and developing technical aspects of organisational systems as well as management systems focused on sustainability and resource efficiency.
