Public Health Science aims at examining factors that may improve the health of the population. It focuses in particular on the causes of ill-health from social and medical perspectives, with the aim of finding models to prevent ill-health and improve the quality of life and health.
Epidemiology is the public health related discipline that studies the spread of ill-health in different populations, and identifies risk factors associated with this.
Academic public health science in the form of research and knowledge provides an important contribution to the formulation of policies for national public health objectives. Current studies include factors behind the reported increase in obesity and the rate of sick leave.
Public health science is at levels A, B, C and D and further studies are possible. Public health science may be a major subject in a bachelor´s degree of at least 180 ECTS.
