Social Work

Social Work is a broad subject area. The literature says that "Social work promotes social change, problem solving in human relationships, empowerment and emancipation with a view to promoting people´s welfare. Based on theories of human behaviour and social systems, social work operates in the areas where people interact with their environment. Principles of human rights and social justice are fundamental to social work. " (The International Federation of Social Workers, IFSW 2000 - see Wilson et al, "Social Work", 2008:48).

Different social scientific perspective

Social work is influenced by several social science perspectives: psychology, sociology, law and social policy.

Social work is a subject in the framework of the social worker programme, practical activity and a research topic. It includes theory and methodological development at different levels: the structural level, the group and organizational level, and the individual and family level.
