Patient safety and communication (anaesthesia, intensive care)

The overall aim is to study patient safety, communication and cooperation in the field of anaesthesia and intensive care and to find out whether or not patient safety, communication and cooperation among healthcare personnel changes once SBAR is introduced.

Three sub-studies are included in the project. Exception reports and event analyses from six anaesthesia clinics in Sweden will be analysed. Interviews will be conducted with personnel from two anaesthesia clinics. Data collection by means of questionnaires and observations was carried out in the spring of 2011 and will be repeated in 2012 in order to measure the effectiveness of implementing the communication tool SBAR in an anaesthesia clinic.
