The IDA-project 20 years later

The study of eating attitudes, attitudes to food and healthiness among young girls "Swedish longitudinal cohort study of Investigation of Dieting Behaviors in Adolescent Girls"; as in everyday speech is called IDA project, started in 1995 with 1279 girls and their parents

As far as we know there’s no other current Swedish population-based study that has such a long follow-up as 20 years. In total, four doctoral dissertations have been produced in the project together with a number of scientific articles. The previous results have been of significance for how the support and care of people with food and eating related illness have been developed. A number of studies been conducted during the last ten years to improve our understanding of the risk factors that may predispose an individual to develop eating related illness over the last decade. However, we are still lacking in knowledge of risk and protective factors for eating related illness.

We also have little knowledge the extent to which people who had or has such an illness can complete studies and the extent they function in the workplace. The purpose of our 20-year follow-up is continuing the study of protective and risk factors for the development of eating related illness in relation to the current situation in life, self-esteem, employment, job satisfaction and work ability.

Project duration 2015 - 2020.
