A written examination is a test of knowledge, usually at the end of a course. You have to register for an exam in advance, and you have to bring valid ID to the examination.

You must register for written examinations at the University of Gävle, to be allowed to take the exam. The deadline is 10 days before the exam date. We do not accept late registrations. You can register five weeks prior to the date of the examination. You register for an exam through Ladok. The exam venue (room) is shown in your timetable and in Ladok a week before the exam date.

An exam may be conducted online or in a classroom. An exam is supervised by invigilators. The syllabus contains information about examination forms. In order to participate, you must be registered for the exam.
You take the exam on campus, in Gävle – and turn in your answers on paper.
Before your exam, keep in mind that:
A digital exam on campus is conducted in our computer rooms, with invigilators present. If the digital exam is via Zoom, you participate from your home, using a web cam and Zoom to communicate with the invigilators.
Students with a long-term disability, such as dyslexia, ADHD or visual or hearing impairments, can apply for targeted study support to be able to study on equal terms. You need to attach a doctor's certificate stating your disability with you application. Apply via www.nais.uhr.se

You are allowed to use pens, pencils, erasers and rulers. You are also allowed to use any examination aides that your teacher has approved and noted on the first page of the exam questionnaire. Books, formulas and similar aides may not contain notes.
Cell phones and other electronic devices must be completely turned off during the exam. Flight mode is not allowed.
Place your cell phone in your jacket, bag or a valuables locker, after you have turned it off. If you keep the cell phone on your person (in your pocket et cetera), this will be reported as an attempt at cheating.
For courses that have been discontinued, three opportunities to take a written examination is offered during a time period of one year after the last original examination in connection to the course.
When your examinator has graded your exam and the result has been registered, we will send your exam by post to the address that you have registered in Ladok. Please make sure that your address in Ladok is correct. You can change your address under My Pages in Ladok.
You have to show valid ID to be allowed to take the exam.
If you arrive late for an exam, you will be allowed to enter the room and start your exam 30 minutes after the starting time. If you arrive later than 30 minutes after the starting time, you will not be allowed to take the exam.
It's mandatory to register for exams at the University of Gävle, no later than 10 days before the exam date. If you didn't register in time, you can not take your exam. No exceptions are made from this rule, we do not accept registrations when the deadline is passed.
Through our Exam Center, find past exams for courses offered at University of Gävle, so that you can study and do well at your upcoming exams. Exams from the last three years are available, usually without answers. The exams are from written exams only, not from digital exams.
The University of Gävle provides support for students with permanent or long-term disabilities such as dyslexia, ADHD or visual or hearing impairments. You need to apply for support via www.nais.uhr.se and attach a doctor's certificate stating your disability. The certificate must be in English or Swedish.

Some distance education courses require students to take proctored exams. A proctored exam is taken off-campus and is supervised, just as it would be for a course taken on campus. Other reasons may be considered valid for taking an exam off-campus, for example military service.
