One other subject (minor) in the Bachelor´s Degree and Master´s Degree

The university´s local regulations to the Qualifications Ordinance for undergraduate (now first and second cycle) university education state that in addition to a main subject (major), Bachelor´s and Master´s degrees (magister level) must also include at least one other subject (a minor) at a minimum level of 20 credits. In addition to this, there is scope within the degrees stated for courses which constitute neither a main subject or a minor subject. All the main subjects can also constitute a minor subject. This does not apply to studies commenced after 1 July 2007.

 

Degree of Bachelor of Arts/Social Science/Science

In order to be awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree certificate, the student must have passed courses worth at least 120 credits. The degree is to include a main subject with specialised studies at a level of 60 credits, i.e. you have studied courses worth 20 credits at levels A, B and C. The main subject must include an independent project worth at least 10 credits, (SFS 1993:100). In addition to a main subject, the Bachelor´s Degree must also include at least one other subject worth a minimum of 20 credits.

 

Degree of Master of Arts/Social Science/Science

In order to be awarded a Master of Arts degree certificate, the student must have passed courses worth at least 160 credits. The degree is to include a main subject with specialised studies at a level of 80 credits, i.e. you must have studied courses at levels A, B, C and D. The main subject must include an independent project worth at least 20 credits or two each worth at least 10 credits, (SFS 1993:100). In addition to a main subject, the Master´s Degree must also include at least one other subject worth a minimum of 20 credits.

 

Degree of Master of Medical Science

In order to be awarded a Master of Medical Science degree certificate, the student must have passed courses worth at least 160 credits. The degree is to include a main subject of Medical Science with specialised studies at a level of 80 credits, i.e. you have studied courses worth 20 credits at levels A, B, C and D. The main subject must include an independent project worth at least 20 credits or two each worth at least 10 credits, (SFS 1993:100). In addition to a main subject, the Master´s Degree must also include at least one other subject worth a minimum of 20 credits.

In order to be awarded a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration/Economics degree certificate, the student must have passed courses worth at least 120 credits. The degree is to include a main subject with specialised studies at a level of 60 credits, i.e. you have studied courses worth 20 credits at levels A, B and C. The main subject must include an independent project worth at least 10 credits, (SFS 1993:100). In addition to a main subject, the Bachelor´s Degree must also include at least one other subject worth a minimum of 20 credits. The main subject in the Degree of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration/Economics must be one of the subjects Business Administration or Economics. Courses worth 20 credits each in the subjects Business Administration and Economics (micro theory, macro theory and a special course) are compulsory.

 

Degree of Master of Science in Business Administration

In order to be awarded a Master of Science in Business Administration degree certificate, the student must have passed courses worth at least 160 credits. The degree is to include a main subject with specialised studies at a level of 80 credits, i.e. you have studied courses worth 20 credits at levels A, B, C and D. The main subject must include an independent project worth at least 20 credits or two each worth at least 10 credits, (SFS 1993:100). In addition to a main subject, the Master´s Degree must also include at least one other subject worth a minimum of 20 credits. Business Administration must be a main subject in the degree of Master of Science in Business Administration. Courses worth 20 credits in the subject economics (micro theory, macro theory and a special course) are compulsory.

 

Degree of Bachelor of Science (with a major in ...)

In order to be awarded a Bachelor of Science degree certificate, the student must have passed courses worth at least 120 credits. The degree is to include a main subject with specialised studies at a level of 60 credits, i.e. you have studied courses worth 20 credits at levels A, B and C. The main subject must include an independent project worth at least 10 credits, (SFS 1993:100). In addition to a main subject, the Bachelor´s Degree must also include at least one other subject worth a minimum of 20 credits. In Computer Science, the minor must be a science subject. In addition the Bachelor´s Degree must include at least 20 credits in Mathematics or 15 credits in mathematics and 5 credits in applied mathematics such as mathematical statistics, numerical analysis, numerical methods, etc. Mathematics may be counted as a minor if the programme syllabus does not set particular requirements for the minor subject. (GruN).The main subject in a Bachelor of Science degree must be one of the subjects building engineering, computer science, electronics, energy systems, energy technology, geomatics, industrial economics, surveying and mapping technology, spatial planning, technical facility management engineering or applied geographical information technology.

Degree of Master of Science (with a major in ...)

In order to be awarded a Master of Science with a particular major, the student must have passed courses worth at least 160 credits. The degree is to include a main subject with specialised studies at a level of 80 credits, i.e. you must have studied courses at levels A, B, C and D. The main subject must include an independent project worth at least 20 credits or two each worth at least 10 credits, (SFS 1993:100). In addition to a main subject, the Master´s Degree must also include at least one other subject worth a minimum of 20 credits. In addition the Master´s Degree must include at least 20 credits in Mathematics or 15 credits in Mathematics and 5 credits in Applied Mathematics such as mathematical statistics, numerical analysis, numerical methods, etc. Mathematics may be counted as a minor if the programme syllabus does not set particular requirements for the minor subject. (GruN).The main subject in a Master of Science Degree must be electronics, energy technology or industrial economics.

Bachelor of Science in Social Work

The University of Gävle has been granted the right to award Bachelor´s Degrees in Social Work following examination — information on the requirements will be updated shortly.
 

Degree of Master of ...

(Magisterexamen med ämnesbredd) A Degree of Master (one year) is awarded after the student has completed the courses required to gain a total of 40 credits with a defined specialisation determined by each higher education institution itself, provided that the student holds a qualification worth at least 120 credits or a corresponding qualification from abroad. In order to obtain a Degree of Master of... the student must have completed an independent project (degree project) worth at least 10 credits within the framework of the course requirements. The degree certificate is to state the specialisation of the degree, (SFS 1993:100).The programmes at the University of Gävle which lead to the degree of Master of ... are: - electronic commerce, 40 credits — estate agency, 40 credits — marketing, 40 credits — Social investigation and processing, 40 credits — geomatics — surveying, 80 credits — teacher education, 40 credits — decision, risk and policy analysis, 40 credits

University Diploma

(Högskoleexamen)
In order to be awarded a University Diploma, the student must have passed courses worth at least 80 credits. The diploma must include 40 credits in a subject which should be a main subject in the Bachelor´s Degree. The main focus of the University Diploma is stated through the courses listed in the certificate.
