Diogo Cabral

Postdoktor

Forskningsämne: Energisystem

Diogo O. Cabral have completed successfully a five-year Energy and Environmental Engineering program at the Faculty of Sciences of Lisbon University (FCUL) in 2017. This program encompassed both a three-year Bachelor's degree and a two-year Master's degree. Subsequently, he embarked on a scholarly journey that took him to Gävle University (HiG) in Sweden. At HiG, Diogo furthered his studies by obtaining a Master's degree in Energy Systems in 2018. Simultaneously, he engaged in an internship at Solarus AB, where he managed an Eureka Eurostars project, which focused on the "Design and Construction of a Photovoltaic-Thermal Solar Collector." Concurrently, he pursued his Master's thesis, which focused on the optics of Photovoltaic-Thermal solar collectors. His work in this field ultimately paved the way for a Ph.D. position at HiG, continuing his research on the same subject.

During his tenure at Solarus AB, Diogo concentrated on optimizing the reflectors for the Solarus PowerCollectorTM (PC) and developing production techniques for the latest versions of the Solarus PC. This experience ignited his profound passion for renewable energy sources, particularly in the domain of solar energy, and culminated in his decision to commence his Ph.D. studies in Photovoltaic-Thermal Solar Collector optics in 2018.

In early 2022, despite the challenges posed by the global pandemic, Diogo attained his Ph.D. degree from Gävle University. Throughout his Ph.D. journey, he also assumed the responsibility of teaching courses in Renewable Energy Resources, Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics and Heat Transfer. Additionally, he managed a European H2020 project, RES4Build, which bestowed HiG with the responsibility to develop, prototype and test a novel PVT solar collector, which has been presented in Diogo’s Ph.D thesis. The grant provided by the RES4Build consortium played a pivotal role in the complete renovation and modernization of HiG's Solar Testing Laboratory, equipping it with state-of-the-art facilities, including an electrical and thermal test rig and a semi-automated solar stand for collector testing, enabling a wide range of outdoor experiments, as well as new opportunities for practical laboratory tasks for the students.

Furthermore, in mid-2022, Diogo embarked on a Post-Doctoral position while concurrently offering his expertise as a consultant to MG Sustainable AB. His areas of expertise and interests revolve around renewable energies, with a particular emphasis on solar energy, sustainability, building smartness and EU project management.
