My teaching interests focus on:
1) Problem Based Learning and Active Learning Strategies
I have used problem based and active learning strategies for teaching geography and planning over the past 5 years. PBL shows promise for better engaging students and for improving students communication, creativity, collaboration and critical thinking skills. Work force surveys indicate that graduates need more training in these meta-cognitive skills. Active learning focuses on creativity, goal formation, team building, leadership and cooperative learning strategies.
2) International Cooperation and Exchange
Program and course development for distance, open learning, and international education were also a focus in recent years. I have developed exchanges with universities in Australia and Europe and initiated the Double Degree and Double Diploma program for geography and geomatics students at TRU and the University of Gävle.
