Swedish as a foreign language

The University of Gävle offers exchange students the possibility to learn Swedish as a foreign language.

Svenska som främmande språk, steg 1 (Swedish as a foreign language, level 1)

is the beginner’s course. After having completed the course the students are expected to have acquired a basic knowledge of and skills in Swedish, in the first place an oral vocabulary and phrase usage for everyday situations. The students are expected to be able to take part in conversations about short texts and to understand spoken Swedish in simple listening exercises. Students are expected to have reached an A1/A2 level after this 7,5 ECTS course.

Svenska som främmande språk, steg 2 (Swedish as a foreign language, level 2)

is the intermediate course.

The course is also based on communicative principles and awareness of communicative contexts. The acquisition of Swedish vocabulary, phraseology and grammatical structures builds upon the verbal needs of the students with a focus on everyday situations and topics of the day. After this 7,5 ECTS course, the students are expected to have reached a B1 level.

Both courses are on-campus courses, taught daytime at 50% study pace: 7,5 ECTS in 10 weeks.

Erasmus students will have the opportunity to sign up for the course during the introduction at the beginning of each semester. If you are not an Erasmus exchange student, please contact the International Office or Admissions Office to find out more about tuition fees.
