In the middle of 1990s, a research programme focusing on Newly Qualified Teachers (NQT) was initiated at the University of Gävle. The programme focuses questions regarding NQT learning, on professional development, support needed or offered, systems supporting NQTs, relations mentor adept and relations between Teacher Education and teachers working praxis. Most of the research within the programme is coordinated by the Induction Research Group.
In recent years the focus has been widened to other professions, for instance military officers, nurses, teachers in higher education, and headmasters.
The Induction Research Group perform research, participate in developmental work and coordinate three networks focusing on newly qualified teachers, induction and related questions: one local network and one North European network, NQTNE.
The Induction Research Group also holds lectures and participates in the education of mentors.
