Course organisation
This course runs full-time which means participating in all activities involved in being a teacher at your level, in other words, a 45-hour-week at your VFU school. Attendance at your VFU school is mandatory every day of the VFU period. In addition, there are three obligatory course meetings online which you must attend - the introductory meeting, the oral examination and the half-time seminar. More information on times and dates for these meetings will be posted on Canvas.
This course also includes a set assignment which you will do with your classes under supervision from your LLU. The instructions for this assignment can be found in the Study Guide. The Study Guide will available on Canvas two weeks before the course starts.
This particular VFU period aims to examine the following skills and abilities aims of students.
Students should:
- understand national and local curricula, as well as the way in which they apply to the teaching of English
- show adequate knowledge of subject didactics, including methodology, for the teaching and learning of English
- apply the educational curriculum to the teaching of English
- apply knowledge of subject didactics, including methodology, to the teaching of English
- plan, carry out, and establish objectives for teaching activities within the subject of English
- observe, document, analyze, and assess students' progress in relation with the teaching objectives
- demonstrate the ability to create adequate conditions for all students to learn and improve their knowledge within the subject of English
- conduct themselves in a professional manner towards both students and fellow teachers
- demonstrate an in-depth ability to critically and independently sustain, systematize and reflect on their own and others’ experiences from the placement for English teaching practice
- show the ability to make assessments based on relevant scientific, societal and ethical aspects in a pedagogical context
Please, remember that you are a representative of our university during your VFU and at your VFU placement school. As you can see in the course plan, it is important that you conduct yourself in a professional manner and represent the values and principles underlying the Swedish educational system.
Contact your LLU in good time. You are responsible for distributing the following documents well in advance to your LLU, in printed or digital form:
• The introductory letter
• The evaluation form (bedömningsunderlag)
• VFU-guiden
You should also show your LLU the Study Guide and discuss your assignment with him/her. At the end of your placement and together with you, your LLU will fill in the evaluation form. You are responsible for submitting this form via email to the course coordinator after the completion of the course.
All documents will be available on Canvas.
Communication
It is important that you log onto Canvas in good time before the course starts, since this will be our main channel for communication. This is where you will find material about our course such as the timetable, instructions, material to share with your LLU, etc. This is also where the course coordinator will post general announcements concerning the course. The email client will be used to send individual messages when necessary. Therefore, check the course page and your email regularly.

After completion of your course a web-based course evaluation questionnaire will be sent to you. Your answers in the course evaluation are very valuable and your comments will help us improve and develop the course for the next implementation. All students registered on the course will receive a course evaluation report where all answers are compiled
