The Master Programme in Educational Science is a programme for you if you have a pedagogical education and wish to deepen your understanding for the development of
pedagogical activities. During the programme, you will learn how to initiate, plan, lead and evaluate projects. The programme focuses especially on how to develop activities in preschool and in schools. Besides from giving you the tools to develop activities, the programme also supplies you with in-depth knowledge and insights into how to further develop within your own professional role.
The Master programme in educational science is particularly suitable for you if you have practical experience of pedagogical work. It suits you if, for instance, you work as a preschool teacher, or as a teacher today. It is also suitable for teacher team leaders, heads of subject, development managers or strategists within the world of pedagogy.
Our programme comprises 120 higher education credits, that is two years of full-time studies. However, to enable you to work while studying, the pace of study is part-time. In year one and two, you study courses in development of activities, systematic quality work and in leading collegiate learning. Naturally, our focus is on educational settings. Year three finishes with a course in theory and method to prepare you for year four, when you will write your degree project.
Our programme is a distance learning programme, which means that teaching is both electronic and physical, on-site here on campus in Gävle. The main part of the teaching is electronic; recorded material is independent of time and place, while live streaming teaching requires electronic presence in real time. Live streaming of seminars and lectures is usually scheduled for late afternoons.
When you have completed the programme, you are highly qualified for developing and improving practices within the sector of education. This programme provides you with greater confidence in your work as a, for instance, head teacher, teacher team leader, strategic planner and supervisor in collegiate learning processes. It expands your range of career options and gives you the ability to lead and manage processes for improvement. Moreover, this programme is a second-cycle programme. This means that when you have completed your studies, you will be eligible to apply for third-cycle programmes.
The job market looks promising for students who have completed master programmes in educational science. Quality, strategic development and pedagogical leadership are central issues in the world of education. Colleagues with the ability to plan, lead and evaluate school improvement efforts are therefore necessary for strategic work within the sector. - Pre-school teacher's degree, teacher's degree or degree aimed at work in leisure centers, of at least 180 ECTS credits, with completed thesis of at least 15 ECTS credits within or outside the degree, or -Bachelor degree of at least 180 ECTS credits, of which at least 90 ECTS credits in the field of pedagogy, didactics or equivalent. In addition, knowledge of Swedish and English is required, corresponding to what is required for basic eligibility for Swedish higher education at the undergraduate level.
