Secondary Teacher Education Programme 240 cr

Studying to become a compulsory school teacher while working with a salary in a school? Does this sound too good to be true? It is true and a real possibility for you who would like to teach in mathematics and technology.

The study programme is for anyone interested in working as a teacher in grades 7–8 in the subject mathematics and technology. The rate of study is 75 percent and comprises 240 higher education credits over a period of five years. During your studies, you work 50 percent in a school.

Work-integrated education - a unique possibility

Work-integrated education is a collaboration between the University of Gävle and the municipalities in our region. This means that while you will be studying our programme, you will be employed by a school in a municipality. You will have a full-time employment but only work 50 percent. Your rate of study will be 75 percent of full-time study. Your employment contract will be renewed every year provided that you fulfil all course requirements as well as all your commitments at your school in the municipality.

Apply to the programme via antagning.se. In addition, submit an application to one of the positions in a municipality in the region. To be admitted to the programme, you need to be admitted to the programme as well as offered a position at a school.

Mathematics, technology and how to teach

The programme contains studies in educational sciences, in the subjects mathematics and technology as well as placement periods (VFU). The studies in educational sciences will prepare you for your professional role as a teacher.

Degree of Master of Arts/Science =great opportunitys for employment

After completing the programme, you will be awarded a Degree of Master of Arts/Science in Secondary Education, which means that you will be eligible to apply for a Swedish teaching certificate. You will be qualified to teach mathematics and technology in the grades 7–9 and 4–6.

Teacher shortages are large in the grades 7–9. Equipped both with a bachelor's degree in teacher education and a Swedish teaching certificate, your opportunities for becoming employed as a teacher of mathematics and technology will be good.
