Study Programme for a Master of Engineering in Land Surveying 300 cr

Would you like to study for a profession of the future? Apps, GPS applications and autonomous vehicles all need accurate geospatial information to function. With a Master of Science in Land Surveying, you will be an expert on collection and analysis of geospatial data and location information with many application areas. The geospatial industry is expanding rapidly with digitalisation, emerging technologies and new collaboration environments as important drivers.

Our society needs advanced expertise in geospatial information

The Degree of Master of Engineering in Land Surveying at the University of Gävle is unique in Sweden. The programme gives you advanced expertise in the geospatial information domain. These skills are not only increasingly important in our connected lives but are essential to tackle many of the societal challenges we are facing today.

The fact that geospatial information is important when we use map functions on our smartphones may seem self-evident, but many other apps and systems use geospatial information to provide us with specific information based on our location and to enable proper decision-making. As an example, accurate and detailed real-time geospatial information will be a precondition for autonomous vehicles.

A five-year study programme with two specialisations

The Degree of Master of Engineering in Land Surveying is a five-year programme with specialisations in geospatial data collection and in geographic information systems (GIS). Geospatial information is of fundamental importance to society, such as for producing maps, dividing lands, monitoring environmental changes, developing smart and sustainable cities and meeting climate change challenges.

As an expert on geospatial information, you will be capable of making an essential contribution to society and take an active part in building our future.

Global trends and industry-specific drivers pave the way for an attractive job market

Global trends like digitalisation, urbanisation and climate change adaptation create a need for experts with in-depth knowledge and innovation skills that can enhance the understanding and use of geospatial information. Combined with domain-specific drivers, such as drone technologies, laser scanning applications, high-resolution satellite imagery, precise satellite positioning technologies and GIS for advanced analyses and visualisations, the opportunities on the job market are wide open.

You may work at public authorities, such as Lantmäteriet (the Swedish mapping, cadastral and land registration authority), in municipalities or private sector companies that need experts to develop products, systems and services with geospatial information as a basis. Moreover, the prospects for working abroad are good, either as a consultant or in international collaborations.
