The University of Gävle offers a beautiful environment. It is a place of knowledge only a few minutes from the city centre and is located in a scenic area with Gävle River and the Boulogner Forest as the closest neighbours. The prime area is focused on shaping the future by providing solutions to social challenges through collaboration. Our work includes ecological, social as well as economic aspects which all are integrated throughout the University on all levels and promoted by research.
All students, faculty members and staff are important in our efforts to develop knowledge, understanding and competence for a sustainable living environment for all future generations. The university has always been a forerunner for sustainable development in higher education and was one of the first universities in Sweden to reach certification of the environmental management system.
The University has approximately 14 500 students. It offers more than 50 study programs and second-cycle programs and 500 courses covering humanities, social and natural sciences as well as technology. Students can study full-time, part-time, evenings, on distance or via online courses. International programmes are offered in several fields, such as International Social Work, Business Administration, Electronics/Automation and Teacher Education.
Quick facts about the University of Gävle
- The University of Gävle was established in 1977. It is organised into three faculties and offers around 50 masters- and bachelor’s degrees and 500 courses in the fields of technology, social- and natural sciences & humanities.
- The facilities of the campus consist of various buildings used by the Swedish infantry since 1909. The military stopped utilizing the buildings 1993 after which, in 1997, the University of Gävle’s new campus was inaugurated.
- In 2004 the University of Gävle was awarded environmental certification (ISO 14001) and should promote sustainable development in all areas of activity.
