Social Mobilization for a Fair Transformation Towards Ecosocial Sustainability
Welcome to the second International Symposium on Urban Sustainability in Gävle, Sweden. The overarching topic of this symposium will be mobilization and collective action for a fair transformation towards ecosocial sustainability, with a specific focus on urban sustainability.
This series of symposium provide researchers, practitioners and the public to present and share insights, network and co-create new ideas.
The current solutions to meet the intertwined climate, environmental and social crises are leaning towards macro-level policies and new technologies. Though these are essential, they are not sufficient to carry through a fair transformation. There is a need for complementary approaches, more based on bottom-up approaches, participatory democracy, social mobilization and community empowerment to instigate ecosocial urban sustainability.
The symposium provides a trans-disciplinary platform that connects contemporary challenges and solutions to intertwined social-ecological systems, be it from fields such as social sciences, sustainability science, urban planning or design, humanities, health, or urban ecology. By bringing together leading researchers and practitioners from various disciplines the aim is to share and exchange experiences and developments on different topics related to fair transformation towards ecosocial sustainability.
