Morgan Persson, raised in the small forest village of Ytterhavra in Hudiksvall municipality, is appointed as an honorary doctor at the University of Gävle. Since the early 1980s, he has been involved in the development of Monitor ERP, which today is a global company with 500 employees.

"It feels extremely honorable to be appointed as an honorary doctor. Collaboration with the University is important and prioritized for us. At Monitor ERP, we have been involved in educational issues for many years, particularly focusing on technology and engineering education," says Morgan Persson.

"A Strong Ambassador"

He has long been strongly committed to collaboration between the University and industry. For example, he has been instrumental in designing work-integrated education programs through the establishment of Teknikcollege and the so-called "Mellanåret" in Hudiksvall, which has enabled more people to continue their studies at the university level after high school.

"Morgan Persson is a strong ambassador for collaboration between industry and academia. His work in lowering the barriers to higher education is of great importance for the region's competence supply, and he has contributed to increasing the attractiveness of engineering education both for students and for industry," says Ylva Fältholm, rector at the University of Gävle.

Promotion on April 19, 2024

Morgan Persson promises that the collaboration with the University of Gävle will continue. "We have recruited many employees from the University, and it is clear that the education provided is of high quality. The University is important for Swedish business and Gävleborg County, and our collaboration has been excellent for many years. We will do everything we can to ensure it continues and evolves," he says. The promotion will take place during the Academic Ceremony on April 19, 2024.

From the University's justification

"Morgan Persson is appointed as an honorary doctor at the University of Gävle for his strong and long-term commitment to meeting the needs of competence, education, and research, primarily in the technical field, in close collaboration with the University.

Morgan contributes in various ways to the University's areas of operation. In his role as CEO, he is a strong ambassador for the importance of collaboration between industry and academia, especially at the University of Gävle.

Morgan works to provide more people with the opportunity for higher education in a region characterized by a relatively low level of education.

Morgon Persson's commitment to engineering education demonstrates a strong willingness to meet the needs of higher education in the region. Through his work with the region's companies and the University, Morgan Persson has thus contributed in a very concrete and sustainable way to fulfilling the University's goal of making local and global societal contributions."
