– It feels great and honorable and I am very happy and proud of the University's work with collaboration. Of course, it is a little extra warming when it is colleagues from other universities who have decided on the award, says Magnus Lemoine, who in addition to the honor receives a diploma as proof of the collaboration award.

Awarded to someone who has developed collaboration

The organisation Unilink has universities and colleges as members and the goal is to support higher education institutions and their employees to develop collaboration with the rest of society.

This is the first time that the prize has been awarded and it will now be awarded annually. The Collaboration Prize is awarded to an employee or activity at a higher education institution that has made practical efforts to develop collaboration between academia and business, the public sector or the non-profit sector.

Magnus Lemoine has worked at the University of Gävle for 22 years and his track record is long. His title is business developer within the Faculty of Technology and Environment and he is, among other things, project manager for the "Teknikerjakten" and Profiling of higher education engineering programs, as well as coordinator for the Co-op programs.

Proof that the work is making an impact

And it is especially for the successful work with the Co-op concept that he is now being recognised.

– This is proof that the work we are doing with Co-op is having an impact on other universities. It is not only students and the business community who see the benefits of this form of study. Colleagues in academia get a good dialog about how the courses relate to the labor market and we can keep the content of our courses relevant through the collaboration, says Magnus Lemoine.

What do you think makes you the winner of this award?

– I have had the privilege of leading and developing the work and that is probably the main reason, but I want to emphasise that there are several of us who make this possible. An important aspect of the award is the long-term nature of the work and the fact that we are now introducing Co-op on all university engineering programs for next autumn. We have consistently maintained that cooperation between students and companies is good for us too. We have been responsive and developed the forms over time, which is not possible without the support of the management, colleagues in our programs and the collaboration support.

Motivation for the UniLink Collaboration Prize 2024:

Magnus Lemoine and Co-operative Education (Co-op) at the University of Gävle have since 2010 successfully established an innovative collaboration between academia and industry.

By combining studies with paid work periods, the program has provided students with valuable work experience, while employers have had the opportunity to recruit and train future employees at an early stage.

The Co-op has also connected major players such as Stora Enso and Sandvik and has smoothly solved practical challenges. Magnus Lemoine's long-term commitment and innovative work make him and Co-op very worthy recipients of the UniLink Collaboration Award.
