She will take up the new position on July 1.
– It feels both exciting and very motivating. Being entrusted to lead Gefle Student Union is a great honor and I really look forward to continuing to develop the work we have already started. It is a responsibility I take very seriously and a chance to make a real difference for the students here at the University of Gävle, she says.
Passionate about student influence
Sandra Wetterstedt recently graduated in industrial economics at the University and she has been involved in the student union for most of her studies.
– Most recently, I have been student influence officer and main student work environment representative. Before that, I was a member of the student union board for a year. This involvement has given me both knowledge and drive to work for students' rights and influence.
What issues will be important for you to pursue as president of Gefle Student Union?
– One of my main driving forces is to strengthen student influence and to make more people feel that their voice actually matters. I want involvement to feel meaningful and accessible to more people, regardless of background or study situation. At the same time, I want to continue to work for good relations with the University, safer study environments and a student union that is present, responsive and relevant in the students' everyday lives.
