So far, over 12,000 people have engaged in more than 60 activities linked to sustainability, health and inclusion. Among the initiatives are:

  • Work & Wellbeing Challenge - focusing on physical and mental health
  • KM0 Challenge - for sustainable food production and responsible mobility
  • Civic Participation Challenge - for increased student engagement, inclusion and community through donations and volunteering
  • Circular Economy Actions - with waste reduction and recycling

Cooperation has taken place with over 55 external stakeholders, and several universities within the Alliance have carried out joint activities according to a coordinated annual plan.

– I would like to pay special attention to all the staff at the University who have been involved in WP8. You have done and are doing a fantastic job! The European Commission was impressed by the amount of activities and initiatives and asked us to convey their thanks to you, says Agneta Morelli, WP8 Leader.

The next phase

The University of Gävle continues to be a driving force in shaping a greener and more inclusive university in Europe. During the next phase, the work of WP8 will focus on:

  • Strengthen the exchange of good practices via a digital Living Lab platform
  • Spread engagement via the participatory approach developed under EU GREEN
  • Integrate the objectives of sustainable and healthy universities into governance and management

A period of getting to know each other

For the European University as a whole, the first half of the project has been very much about mapping, collecting data, setting up structures and developing common governance documents.

– These are big and important issues that have been addressed while the institutions have gotten to know each other. When we started the European University, the University of Gävle and many of the other universities within EU GREEN were completely new acquaintances for each other. The fact that we have managed to cooperate so well and deliver according to plan is really impressive! says Malin Hillman, coordinator of EU GREEN at the University of Gävle.
