World Sustainable Transport Day – share your ”Cycling Story”

This week, the University of Gävle celebrates World Sustainable Transport Day, the UN theme day for sustainable transport. This year, we are particularly highlighting cycling as a way to a sustainable working day.

Micael Melander, University Director (EVL), Li-Fang Xu, University Lecturer (ATM), Henrik Gustafsson, Graphic Designer (AKE), and Elin Knutsson, Education Administrator (UBS), choose to bike to the University of Gävle. Wednesday is World Sustainable Transport day. To mark the occasion, invites all staff and students to participate in EU GREEN's My Cycling Story campaign, where you can share your own story about how you cycle to work.

"A more sustainable campus"

Globally, the transport sector accounts for about 15 % of greenhouse gas emissions, of which about 69 % come from road traffic. At the same time, transportation is part of everyone's daily life and our individual choices can make a big difference.

Every time someone chooses the bicycle over the car, emissions are reduced, but it is also about health, well-being and creating a more sustainable campus," says Agneta Morelli, project manager.

My Cycling story

The library draws attention to the week with a book display on sustainable transport. In addition, during the week we highlight some of the stories submitted via My Cycling Story. In the image below and on posters around campus, you will find a QR code that you can use to submit your story - it can be a short text, a photo or both.

How do you get to work? Do you have a favorite route, a cycling tip or a story about how you started cycling? Share your story and inspire others to pedal more often.
