Energy4Supply
The overall scope of the E4S project is to drive the clean energy transition forward within the supply chain of the manufacturing sector, by focusing on enhancing the energy efficiency of the small- and medium sized enterprise (SME) suppliers within a manufacturing industry’s supply chain.
The project directly addresses the urgent global need for sustainable energy practices and aims to significantly reduce carbon emissions by integrating SMEs into a broader decarbonization effort.
The central objective of the E4S project is to develop and implement a novel certification scheme tailored specifically for SMEs, which simplifies and enhances the assessment of energy efficiency. This scheme departs from traditional, burdensome certifications like ISO 50001, offering a lighter, more adaptable alternative. The project is set against a backdrop of pressing environmental
challenges, where SMEs often struggle with the complexity and costs associated with standard energy efficiency measures.
Key activities in the project
- Developing a ranking system to evaluate suppliers based on their energy efficiency.
- Establishing energy efficiency networks that foster collaborative learning and sharing of best practices.
- Creating a centralized resource hub to support SMEs in implementing sustainable energy solutions.
Expected results
- A transformative certification system that motivates and recognizes SMEs for energy-efficient practices.
- Increased adoption of energy management systems across the SME sector, with a target of a 50% implementation rate of energy audit recommendations.
- Strengthened capacities of SMEs to engage in sustainable practices, enhancing their competitiveness and sustainability.
Through these strategic actions, the E4S project aims to catalyse a shift in the manufacturing sector towards more sustainable and economically viable energy practices. By empowering focal companies to act as catalysts for change within their supply chains, the project creates a ripple effect that enhances the overall sustainability of the industry.

Reflecting on two insightful days at our project meeting in Vienna May 20-21

Participants in the meeting in Vienna
Our Austrian partner e7 energy innovation & engineering had the pleasure of hosting the second in-person meeting of our project in the beautiful city of Vienna. It was two interesting days of updates, exchange, and meaningful discussions – all aimed at driving the CleanEnergyTransition across manufacturing SupplyChains.
Besides from thematic deep-dives into Energy & Power Audit Methodologies, Energy Networks and Financing Models we additionally carried out a public stakeholder session with two excellent guest contributions:
Johanna Reinisch from the Wirtschaftskammer Österreich on CSRD and the Omnibus Packag
Peter Möller from Inter IKEA Group with real-world insights into Scope3 engagement and sustainability in action
As always, the time outside the meeting room was just as valuable: informal talks, new ideas, and stronger bonds among partners that will carry our work forward.
A big thank you to everyone, who contributed to the success of this event. Your motivation and expertise is what’s pushing the Energy4Supply project toward impactful outcomes for SMEs and the broader manufacturing sector. We would also like to thank our guest speakers for their time and sharing their valuable insights.
E4S at the LIFE CET Business & Industry Contractors Meeting in Brussels

Maria Johansson, Gabor Horvath and Daniel Andersson with the poster
E4S-project participated in the LIFE Clean Energy Transition Business & Industry Contractors Meeting in Brussels—bringing together representatives from 22 projects working towards more energy efficiency.
E4S was featured during the poster exhibition, where our project team had the opportunity to showcase our goals and early activities to fellow projects and stakeholders. It was a great opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions with the other projects.
