Motivational dialogue

On district nurses' experiences, training and practice.

The aim was to map what training district nurses / nurses in primary care have received in Motivational Interviewing (MI) and to what extent they use MI. The aim was also to describe how well district nurses in primary care apply MI and how patients respond during motivational interviewing. A further aim was to describe how district nurses/nurses in primary care experience the motivational interviewing.

The interviews have been analyzed with the coding methods Motivational Interviewing Treatment Integrity Code (MITI) and Motivational Interviewing Sequential Code for Observing Process Exchanges (MI-SCOPE) in collaboration with a research group at Karolinska Institutet working with both analysis methods.

External funding has been received from the Swedish Stroke Association, the Swedish Heart and Lung Association and the Erik, Karin and Gösta Selander Foundation.

Duration: 2010-2015.
